About Department Of Psychology
The Department of Psychology, established in 1970, introduced special-level courses in 1984-85 and offers programs under both the Arts and Science faculties, with instruction in Marathi and English. Dr. L.D. Deore, the founding Head of the Department and BOS Chairman of SPPU, was succeeded by Mr. D.N. Pagar (2015-2019), and currently, Dr. Sandeep Khilare leads the department, supported by Mr. Vikram Rasal, Mr. Javed Shaikh, and Smt. Anisha Duraphe. The department actively engages in counselling services, conducting psychological assessments, career guidance sessions, and online counselling. Regular study tours and field visits are organized to various institutions, hospitals, Manashakti Kendra, orphanage centres, and schools for specially-abled students, providing students with valuable practical exposure. Students are encouraged to participate in intercollegiate competitions, research paper presentations, and psychological assessments, fostering their academic and professional growth. The department frequently organizes workshops, expert lectures, and seminars on personality development, stress management, and career counselling, alongside community outreach programs, mental health awareness campaigns, and parent counselling workshops. Committed to academic excellence, research, and social impact, the department continues to nurture future psychologists and mental health professionals through innovative education, counselling, and engagement initiatives.

Counselling and Student Development Initiatives:
- Class 10th Counselling (April 12, 2024):
- Conducted in Rajur, Ingalun, Godhre, and Sitewadi.
- 10 students were guided using an Interest Inventory.
- “Bright Her Tomorrow” NGO, Mumbai, took responsibility for their education.
- Counselling 2023-24:
- 15 students received psychological assessments for “Success Coaching Classes” in Junnar.
- Counselling 2020-21 (COVID-19 Support):
- 53 citizens from Sangli district received online counselling and guidance.
- Conducted under the Mental Health Services Project by the Government of Maharashtra, Public Health Department, District Collector Office & Sushrusha Counselling Centre, Islampur.
- Study Tours & Field Visits:
- Organized visits to Pradeshik Mental Hospital (Ratnagiri), Manashakti Kendra & Kaivalyadham Kendra (Lonavala), and Mukbadhir Vidyalaya (Junnar).
- Provides students with practical exposure to mental health institutions.
- Student Participation in Competitions:
- Encouraging students to participate in various intercollegiate contests to enhance confidence and exposure.
- Workshops, Lectures & Seminars:
- Regularly organizing workshops, expert lectures, seminars, and conferences.
- Focus on personality development, career counselling, and psychological well-being.
