About Chemistry Department
The Department of Chemistry, established in 1984, offers undergraduate (B.Sc.) and postgraduate (M.Sc. in Analytical and Organic Chemistry) courses, providing a well-equipped environment for effective learning at both levels. The department features modern laboratories, a spacious library, and offers an SPPU-approved Certificate Course in Biomedical Waste Management. Notable milestones include the first batch of T.Y.B.Sc. in 1985-86, M.Sc. Organic Chemistry in 2008-09, and M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry in 2022-23. The department has produced 17 NET/SET/GATE qualified students and 15 alumni who have pursued Ph.D. programs. Its strengths include a qualified teaching staff, a Mentor-Mentee system, placement opportunities through alumni interaction, and a focus on skills development. The department also supports slow and advanced learners, while fostering co-curricular activities such as seminars, workshops, group discussions, industrial visits, and guest lectures to enrich the student experience. Furthermore, the department has embraced the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by integrating interdisciplinary learning, flexibility in course choices, and an emphasis on critical thinking and skill development, aligning with the policy’s vision of holistic education.

Library - Activity Form
All faculty members of the department are engaged in research activities with the help of M.Sc. students who do their master’s project work. Currently, research activities are going on in the following fields.
- Catalysis
Students from the Department of Chemistry conduct projects on biocatalysts Using natural juices like lemon and sweet lime. They also explore various nanoparticles as catalysts in organic and heterocyclic synthesis, focusing on sustainable and efficient chemical processes.
- Synthetic Chemistry
Research in synthesis chemistry at the college explores multicomponent one-pot synthesis, focusing on efficient, cost-effective reactions that combine multiple reactants in a single step. This approach enhances sustainability, reduces waste, and offers innovative solutions for complex organic and heterocyclic compounds.
- Materials Chemistry
Materials chemistry is a new and highly interdisciplinary science, Departmental research involves the use of chemistry for the creation, characterization, and application of materials with interesting or potentially useful physical or chemical characteristics.
- Bioinorganic Chemistry
Bioinorganic chemistry is a field that encompasses the intersection between inorganic chemistry and biochemistry. Departmental research focused on synthesis of inorganic molecules, including metal ions and coordination compounds, are necessary for life in many organisms, as they function in the transport of molecules and are a key component of enzymes.
- Nanochemistry
The department’s research focuses on synthesizing nanoparticles using methods like green synthesis, flame pyrolysis, and co-precipitation. These synthesized nanomaterials are applied in various areas, including nano-catalysis for heterocyclic and organic compound synthesis, as well as in photocatalysis reactions, offering sustainable solutions in chemical processes.
- Natural Products Chemistry
Natural products chemistry is the study of substances found in nature, such as plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms. Departmental research involves isolating and identifying the chemical composition of these substances, and using them in other research and drug discovery
- Heterocyclic Compounds
Departmental research in heterocyclic synthesis focuses on designing and developing new methods to create heterocyclic compounds. These compounds, containing atoms like nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur within their ring structures, are vital in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science, advancing various scientific fields.
