About Department Of Physics
The Department of Physics, established in 1984 with Prof. Vinod Sakhare as its first Head, has grown steadily, offering B.Sc. programs for first, second, and third-year students while consistently achieving outstanding academic results despite fierce competition. The department is well-equipped with modern infrastructure, including advanced laboratory equipment, a dedicated core library with approximately 250 titles and numerous e-books, and broadband connectivity to support research and learning. It features separate, well-equipped undergraduate laboratories, a darkroom, and research laboratories, providing an excellent environment for practical and theoretical studies. In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department has integrated multidisciplinary, skill-based, and research-oriented learning approaches into its curriculum, fostering critical thinking, innovation, and experiential learning. Additionally, faculty members employ advanced teaching techniques to enhance the overall learning experience.

The department actively engages in research across various branches of Physics Studies for UG students, including:
- Atomic Physics: Atomic physics seeks to understand and control the quantum behavior of matter at the smallest scale. What are the fundamental properties of single atoms, ions, molecules, and photons.
- Nuclear Physics: Its research activities encompass a vast range of experiments focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the fundamental laws of nuclear and particle physics.
- Condensed Matter Physics: The condensed-matter theory group covers a broad range of topics that can roughly be divided into three areas: quantum condensed matter, photonics, and soft condensed matter.
- Astrophysics: Astrophysics seeks to understand the nature and evolution of the universe and its constituents, using extreme objects as laboratories for examining the behavior of matter
- Nanotechnology: In electronics, quantum mechanics is essential for electron behavior in nanoscale electronic devices, thus paving the way for transistors and high-performance sensors to be built.
