BOTANY

About Botany Department
The Department of Botany has a rich history of academic and practical excellence. Established in 1984 under the leadership of Prof. Suresh Bhosale, the department has evolved into a center for innovative learning. Now led by Dr. Vinayak Lokhande, the department continues to uphold the legacy of quality education while embracing modern advancements in the field of plant sciences.
Aligned with the NEP 2020, the department offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes Basic, Advanced, and Applied disciplines of Botany. The department emphasizes experiential, inquiry-based learning through a variety of programs, including workshops, seminars, botanical excursions, and research initiatives like Avishkar. Students also benefit from specialized guidance for Ph.D. research.
Skill development is a priority, with programs in mushroom cultivation, herbal product preparation, food processing, flower arrangements, plant tissue culture and soil health analysis, which not only enhance student employability but also foster entrepreneurship. Environmental stewardship is promoted through activities such as biodiversity conservation and tree plantation drives.
Under Dr. Lokhande’s leadership, the department integrates cutting-edge scientific advancements with traditional plant sciences, preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the 21st-century workforce. It remains dedicated to its mission of delivering holistic education, driving innovation, and promoting sustainable development in the community.
