About Department Of English

The Department of English at Shri Shiv Chhatrapati College, Junnar, is one of the most esteemed departments under Savitribai Phule Pune University. Committed to academic excellence, the department consistently strives to go beyond mediocrity, fostering a culture of critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication.

A Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) and a Postgraduate degree in English open diverse career pathways in education, business, law, and mass media, equipping students to confidently navigate global challenges.

For the past 20 years, the department has successfully offered a Functional English course at the degree level, providing students—especially from rural backgrounds—with a strong foundation in the four essential language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This program has significantly enhanced students’ linguistic proficiency and career prospects.

  • Dr. R. K. Purane has been awarded the degree of Ph.D. of  Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.
  • Under the guidance of Dr. T. M. Kamble, 03 research scholars have been pursuing the degree of Ph.D.
  • Dr. S. K. Joshi (Former HOD) has published two anthologies of Marathi Poems.
  • Dr. S. K. Joshi and Prof. V. D. Kharat  published a collection of English poems entitled “English Folk Songs”.
